The spellbinding story follows Kaguya as she reveals her true celestial origins, surrounded by dazzling animation and a pulsing sci-fi soundtrack. After outsmarting countless suitors (even the Emperor of Japan!), she must return to her home on the moon, leaving behind letters, memories, and a trail of cosmic stardust.

Princess Kaguya sparkles in Japanese legend as the heart of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Kaguya-hime) – the oldest folktale in Japan! Since the Heian period (794-1185), it's been retold as enchanting books, films, and even space probe names.

The story starts with an old bamboo cutter discovering a radiant baby girl inside a shining bamboo stalk. Kaguya grows up to be ethereal and wondrous, enchanting earthlings and royalty alike, but she must ultimately return to the moon, her true home. The legend carries themes of love, loss, impermanence, and cosmic ties – which echo through art, music, and even Mount Fuji (said to be the mountain where Kaguya’s farewell letter was burned!).

Making his glittery feature debut, Shingo Yamashita is famous for the high-energy anime openings in Jujutsu Kaisen (Season 1), Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura.
